Seven persons are reported to have been killed and many others were injured in six separate road accidents reported from Chamoli, Udham Singh Nagar and Dehradun districts till Friday evening.
In Chamoli district, two persons died while three others were seriously injured when the bus they were sitting in fell off the road down the mountain slope in Karnprayag. Around 30 persons received minor injuries. The seriously injured were brought to Dehradun through helicopters, said Tripti Bhatt, SP Chamoli.
The deceased were yet to be identified till the time of filing this story. Around 35 persons, all from Maharashtra, sitting in the bus, were going to Haridwar from Chamoli. The accident occurred at Shaktinagar in Karnprayag, SP added.
In Kalsi, a Dehradun district, one person died and 10 others were injured when the vehicle they were sitting in overturned at lakhwar Band area.
The deceased has been identified as Surendra Sharma, 60, resident of Naziabad, Uttar Pradesh. The injured were Dinesh (34), Ankit (25), Omprakash (65), Chaman Singh (66), Devraj (33), Ghanshyam (24), Madanpal (25), Rishipal (50) and Nathu Singh Dhani (52) and Mano (52).
In Chakrata, two persons, including the driver, have reportedly died when the vehicle they were sitting in, crashed into a deep gorge at Dunga Khadd.
The accident occurred at around 6 am when they were going to Tyuni from Vikasnagar with the driver supposedly losing control over the wheels while negotiating a sharp bend.
The deceased have been identified as Gulam Sabi and Noor Ahmed, both residents of Srinagar, Pauri Garhwal.
In Rishikesh, five persons were injured after the car they were travelling in plunged into a deep gorge around five kilometres away from Shivpuri. The travellers were coming from Punjab for Hemkund Sahib. The injured persons were admitted at the local hospital in Rishikesh, police said.
In Kashipur, a 24 year old woman died when she was sitting as a pillion rider on bike hit by a truck from back side. She died on the spot. Police sent the body for post-mortem.
In Rudrapur, on Thursday, a vegetable card vendor named Rakesh died after being hit by a bike from behind.
The bike bore person named Kamaljeet, native of Shimla was also injured in the accident.
