Inaugurating the exhibition, the vice-chancellor of Gurukul Kangri University Vinod Kumar said the first impression of social media comes in the epic Mahabharata wherein King Dhritrashtra asks Sanjay to narrate him what is happening in the battlefield of Kurukshetra through his distant vision which must have been like some remote controlled medium of the present times.

Social media gives shape to one’s thoughts and every technological application is invented for good purpose, he said, adding that the purity of the purpose of every art which is to reduce distance and bring closeness must be maintained. It must never be misused, he cautioned while citing examples from social media.

Harsh Tiwari, the managing director of Cotec healthcare company, said that the social media was an effective medium to promote one’s ideas if used judiciously.

Dean, faculty of education of the university Pankaj Madan said that social media has become such a powerful tool that its management is crucial. “Even the facebook owner has commented that he would see to it that the social media does not influence the 2019 elections in India. We know that the impact of the social media was vast in elections of Russia and US which are strong economies of the world, having turnovers more than GDPs of certain countries.”

Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies of the university V K Singh said while talking to The Pioneer that the best posters would be sent to the Union Ministry of Information Technology to help it make the social media policy.
