About 50 students from various world heritage sites across India will be in Dehradun today to participate in the World Heritage Day function being organised at the UNESCO Category 2 Centre at Wildlife Institute of India.

According to the WII centre, about 50 students from world heritage site areas including  Keoladeo national park in Rajasthan, Nanda Devi national park in Uttarakhand and the Great Himalayan National Park in Himachal Pradesh will be attending the programme being organised to commemorate World Heritage Day.

The purpose behind involving students from various heritage site areas in the celebration is to make them more aware about the importance of the protected areas they come from. The students will be taken on the nature trail developed within the institute campus viewing and learning aspects of the biodiversity on campus.

They will then be taken to the Forest Research Institute where they are slated to interact with forestry and environmental scientists and also visit various museums maintained by FRI on campus.

Along with the invited students, other students from the National Institute for the Visually Handicapped (NIVH) in Dehradun will participate in a painting competition based on different themes like wildlife and nature, UNESCO cultural and natural heritage sites.
