Medical superintendent (MS) of Doon Medical College Dr KK Tamta said on Friday that the people afflicted with the disease admitted from all areas of the State capital had been treated and released.  Most of the patients were discharged in a day or two after admission, he added.

He hoped that the numbers of dengue cases would come down now with the onset of winter. He assured that they have sufficient beds in the hospital ready to take in the dengue patients.

When this correspondent visited dengue ward of Doon hospital on Friday he found the near ones of those admitted roaming around, faces dark with anxiety.

One of the patients admitted at the facility was Anup Bisht from Dalanwala.  One of his relatives said that he had been  admitted in the hospital on Friday after he  had  vomited twice. “Now, vomiting has stopped. He is responding to the treatment. However, he needs at least four units of blood (platelets) ,” he said.

Symptoms of Dengue are persistent high fever, rashes, headache and pain in the joints. In the acute cases, the number of platelets decreases drastically which may prove fatal for the patient.

The first dengue case in Dehradun this year was reported on July 17 with the Patharibagh area of the city registering more cases than other localities to which the disease later spread.
