45th Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar Memorial Tournament (SSBMT) is going to begin by October 24. Sports are a universal form of recreation. Organization of sports activities in CSIR started in 1953.
This ‘limited sports activity’ continued for three years. The CSIR sports tournament was elevated to an all India level for participation by all CSIR laboratories after the sudden demise of our founder Director General, Dr SS Bhatnagar in 1955. It was named in his memory as the Sir Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Memorial Tournament. The SSBMT is a novel way of paying tribute to this great personality and has become an useful forum for bringing together staff members of CSIR irrespective of disciplines and organizational leads. What started and progressed as a biennial event has now grown to outdoor and indoor tournaments held in alternative years in different national laboratory campuses. CSIR Sports Promotion Board has awarded the organization of SSBMT (Zonal) during October 25-27, 2013 to CSIR-IIP, Dehradun.
About 190 sportsmen from 10 CSIR laboratories will be participating in the event.
