With the State Government extending financial clearance to the guest faculty scheme, the education department could soon start the recruitment of eligible unemployed youths in the vacant posts of lecturer Teachers (lT) and lecturers in the Government schools of State. The department would start recruiting these teachers once the Government Order (GO) is issued for it.

There are a large number of vacant posts of lT and lecturers in Government schools of the State. There are about 4,500 posts of lecturer Teachers (lTs) and 3,500 posts of lecturers lying vacant in the Government schools of the State. There are thousands of Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) qualified unemployed youths in the State who are eagerly waiting for the guest faculty scheme.

The department would give a monthly stipend of Rs15,000 per month for those employed under this scheme. Education Minister Mantri Prasad Naithani has publically declared on many occasions about the State Government’s plan to appoint unemployed youths as guest faculty. However, the teaching organisations are insisting that the Government should expedite the process of appointment of lecturers by the public service and should not adopt ad-hoc measures.

Interestingly, these guest faculty teachers could be appointed for a short period of time as the Uttarakhand Public Service Commission has initiated a recruitment drive for 1,213 posts of lecturers and 3,000 posts of lTs. Similarly, the process for departmental promotions for 1,100 posts of lTs and 1,750 lectures is on cards.
