About 41.58 per cent of the voters cast votes in the students’ union election in SGRR (PG) College held on Saturday. The State capital witnessed drizzle with sky remaining overcast throughout the day that might account for the relatively lower turnout as compared to other colleges where the elections were held recently. However, the supporters of various students’ groups were found motivating the voters to cast votes in the favour of their respective candidates.
Minor scuffle among the supporters of the students’ groups were reported, but the administration has somehow managed to keep things under control outside the college campus.Out of 3,013 students in the voters’ list 1,253 voters cast votes in the election.
Meanwhile, the district administration had made elaborate arrangements by deploying adequate police force to avoid untoward incidents during and after the election in the college. Two polling booths were arranged in each zone.A total of 13 candidates were in the fray for various posts — president, vice president, general secretary, joint secretary, university representative and treasurer.
