About 35 proposals were passed in the second meeting of the current board of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) on Monday. Majority of the councillors complained about the poor condition of drainage system in their areas, regarding which mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ said that MCD will be buying three new JCBs for the cleaning of these drains before monsoon season.
Gama informed the media, “The idea is to generate more revenue so that we can do more work for the development of this city. On large chunks of land under MCD area, we are planning to construct hotels, wedding points or markets. On smaller lands, we will make a proposal and send it to the state administration, for selling purpose.”
On biogas plant, the mayor said, “We will collect the dung of cattles from dairies and charge them for it. Those who will not abide by it will be penalised.”
It is worth mentioning here that during the meeting when councillor Manchand raised objection on this agenda, stating that penalty should be imposed on those dairy owners who abandon old cows and male calves on the streets, to which the mayor did not give any satisfactory reply.
On the proposal of health department for the compliance of Construction and Demolition Waste Rules 2016, MCD has identified three spots in Harbanswala, Karnpur and Makkawala. Additional Municipal Commissioner, Neeraj Joshi said that the National Green Tribunal has taken strict actions against Almora municipal council, imposing a penalty of Rs 10 lakh for not complying with this regulation. Taking that in view, MCD will be taking segregation of waste seriously. In case of building demolition, builders are supposed to segregate the waste into wood, tiles and bricks.
On the proposal from Heath department for special cleanliness drive MCD has passed Rs 85 lakh in the 40 new wards.
Councillor Amita Singh pointed out that MCD alone is getting all the blame for the drain blockage. She alleged that National Highway division had left construction materials near the roadside drains from Balliwala to Ballupur Chowk which will create problems during monsoon. She proposed that a letter should be sent to all the departments concerned about the issue.
