The local police achieved another success in its operation against the sale of hard drugs in Kotdwar following arrest of three persons along with recovery of 40 sachets of smack.
The police claim that one of the men nabbed is a major supplier of smack from neighbouring Uttar Pradesh to the Kotdwar area.
According to information received from sources, the police was undertaking a checking drive when they caught Amir and Sanjay from the park behind the power house on Najibabad Road. Both the men had 10 sachets of smack each with them.
In another development, the police arrested Bijnor resident and known smack dealer Rashid with 20 sachets of smack during a checking drive at Kaudia.
During questioning by the police, Rashid claimed that he was the main supplier of smack for the entire Kotdwar area and was coming to Kotdwar on Sunday to take payments from his dealers.
While confirming the arrests, the Kotdwar Kotwali in-charge Pramod Kumar Shah said that the three arrested men were presented in the court from where they were sent to jail.
He further said that some local youth found abusing smack were also apprehended by the police for questioning. It is pertinent to mention here that smack and pharmaceutical drugs preferred by substance abusers are smuggled from towns in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh to various towns in Uttarakhand with a rising number of people- especially the youth getting addicted to substance abuse.
