Superintendent Traffic Police Dehradun lokeshwar Singh said that they have set up three cameras across the main city areas in assistance with a company to control the spike in the traffic rule violation and street crimes in the capital city.
He said that the move started on a month-long trial basis would help in restraining violation of traffic rules like rash and drunk driving and street crimes now happening thick and fast in the city.
The areas where the cameras have been installed for trial include Prince Chowk, Chakrata Road and Nanada Ki Chowki. The cameras installed at these places are hi-tech ones whose names are Red light Violation Detector (RlVD) and Speed Detection System (SDS).
“They are very effective in nailing down those who over-speed and jump the red signals. The cameras would click such vehicles’ number plates and simultaneously the photos are identified by camera software put inside the cameras that is called Automatic Number Plate Reader (ANPR). This is the technology which detects the number plates of the vehicles found on the wrong side of the law and send the information directly to the police control room. Those manning the room would take out the addresses of the errant drivers and send E-Chalan invoice by post to their homes,” the SP Traffic said.
He mentioned that these cameras would work 24X7. “We are sure that these cameras would help us a lot in controlling traffic violations and other crimes. Following the successful trial, we would install the same at various intersections of the city. Tenders would be issued to various registered companies to quote their bidding for the installation across the city,” he added.
