A massive plantation drive along the Rispana river would be launched on Sunday morning under the leadership of the Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat.  The drive, considered a dream project of the CM, would start at 8.30 am and in course of it, about 2.5 lakh saplings would be planted on the banks by way of boosting the rejuvenation of now- dying Rispana, which was once a perennial river.

The students, social organisations, public representatives and government departments would participate in the massive plantation drive at Kairwan village, Tapobhumi enclave, Makrait, Rajpur Road, Kath Bangla, Nari Niketan, Mothrowala and Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) Daudwala along the river Rispana.

CM Rawat has taken the initiative to rejuvenate Rispana  which once was a perennial river. Under the ‘Rispana to Rishiparna’ programme, many activities like cleaning the river and plantation along its banks are planned. As part of the drive, saplings would be planted from the origin of river to its confluence with the river Bindal. CM has advised the officials that at least 30 percent of the plants should be fruit bearing trees.

To oversee the preparation of the mega plantation drive, the chief secretary Utpal Kumar Singh met the officers of the departments concerned at the secretariat on Friday. In the meeting, CS directed the officials to ensure maximum participation in the programme. The CM  himself would plant saplings  at Kairwan village and Mothrowala by way of exhorting others to plunge into the drive.

Meanwhile, the district administration has started distributing saplings among the students of different schools based in Dehradun. A total of 1.5 lakh plants have been distributed among the students of 416 schools spread across the district. Along with the plants, the students have also been given cards. The students are expected to take a selfie while planting the sapling and paste it on the card provided to them. The students would submit these cards in their schools from where the district administration would collect them. The students who would participate in the drive would be provided e- certificates by the district administration.
