A 25 year- old Spanish national was allegedly cheated of money by a fraudster against whom a complaint was lodged at the Nagar Kotwali on Wednesday. Acting on the complaint, Haridwar police have lodged a case against an unidentified person.
Police said that the Spanish national Pau, resident of Reus Tarragona, had come to Haridwar on 31 July and rented a room at Prem Vihar Dharamshala in Shivmurti Gali. When he had been at Rishikesh railway station on July 30 he had met a youth who identified himself as Sulam. As the Spanish national had requested him to arrange a two-wheeler on rent the youth had asked him to pay Rs 8000 to avoid being fleeced by the dealer in view of his being a foreign national. He had also taken the cell phone from the Spanish national on the pretext of taking a snap of the two-wheeler to be given to him on rent. However, Pau could not have traced the youth later. Realizing that he had been cheated, the Spanish youth lodged a complaint at Nagar Kotwali. Police are on the lookout for the alleged fraudster.
Speaking of the matter, SHO Nagar Kotwali Chandrabhan Singh said that they have registered a case against the unidentified person based on his complaint. “We assured the Spanish youth that we would go all-out to trace the culprit within ten days,” he added.
