Sri Dev Suman Uttarakhand Vishwavidyalay (SDSUV) has added 24 new vocational colleges apart from self-financed B Ed college and institutional colleges.
After the affiliation of these colleges with the university, the number of institutions has gone up to over 150. The preparations are on to affiliate other colleges being conducted by technical university with the SDSU University in future.
There are 28 self-financed B Ed Colleges, 13 newly created Government colleges, 74 private institutions and 20 evening colleges which were affiliated with this university.
In this series, the administration has given the green signal for affiliation of 24 colleges in Roorkee, Haridwar and Dehradun, teaching vocational courses, with the university. These colleges are being run by the technical university till now.
The SDSU University was set up with the objective that since Garhwal University became a central university, the new colleges, private institutions and Government colleges would all be affiliated with this university.
This is why the number of colleges being affiliated with the university is on the rise. The administration has already sent a letter to the university in this respect. According to new administrative orders, 24 new vocational studies institutions are being affiliated with the SDSU University. The number of students of vocational colleges in addition to institutions and technical courses would cross 80,000.
This would turn the tasks of conducting exams and affiliation a major challenge, according to Vice- Chancellor Dr U S Rawat.
So far, the posts of university secretary, vice- secretary, assistant secretary, accountant, senior and personal assistant posts have been filled through deputation from Garhwal Central University. In addition, 20 employees in third and fourth class posts were employed through UPNl on contract.
The university has sent a proposal for 152 posts to the administration due to excess of work. But due to administration’s lukewarm attitude, the conducting of exam and affiliation—related work would prove no less a challenge for the university.
Notably, due to non- formation of executive council, the university has to seek permission of the administration for all its necessities.
