The Centre gearing up to roll out GST from July 1, 237 GST kendras are all set to come up in the district at the behest of the administration to facilitate a smooth filing of returns in tune with the GST regime. To assist the traders who are not much tech-savvy and those who live in places with erratic or no internet connectivity, 2000 youths would be trained as GST Mitras across the State. To train them, a number of advocates would be engaged by the administration. It is also learnt that the administration might take help of some private mobile service providers, besides state-owned BSNl, to ensure uninterrupted internet service across the state.
Advocate Ranveer Chauhan said that after some commerce graduates had been given basic training it was time for the government to officially appoint GST Mitras. “They would be trained too in the nitty-gritty of the tax filing process in line with the GST regime,” he added.
He further said that aside from the chartered accountants, advocates and commerce graduates, MBAs and BBAs can become GST tax practitioners after they are imparted the basic training.
Based on the applications filed by the candidates between May 15 and May 31, the selection of candidates as GST Mitras was done by the state commercial tax department and the list of GST Mitras has been released on the website of the department on Tuesday. Maximum number of GST Mitras-714- have been selected from Dehradun district while Haridwar district accounts for 237.
“Once the system is in place the traders need not go to the commercial sale tax department to file returns. They can have their GST returns uploaded with the help of the GST Mitras,” Chauhan said.
With the training process on, SIDCUl Manufacturers’ Association has organised GST seminars on the departmental basis. The same has been conducted by the Commercial Tax department, Central Excise Association and Vyapar Mandal at their own levels.
