The 235 Corps of Engineer Sapper officers got commission on June 30, 1963 in College of Military Engineering, Pune, first time in the history as per the need by the Government due to sudden war by China in 1962.
The Golden Jubilee was celebrated with great pomp and show under Army norms under the leadership of lt Gen J Sikand Commandant, College of Military Engineering, Pune. The function was started with commandant’s welcoming address followed by homage to deceased colleagues, CME Darshan, golfing, boating , bird watching and on last day commemoration dinner with commandant. To journey back fifty years and recount one's days as a young officer and then an officer-an indescribable transformation- can at best be termed strenuous.
Many of veteran officers won gallantry and distinguished service awards during the Indo -Pak wars , Sri lanka and the Kargil operations and numerous other challenging assignments in counter- insurgency operations and aid to Civil Authorities. From the Graduate and YOs courses there were many who reached the ranks of Brigadiers and three reaching the rank of lieutenant General.
The two from the Course had the distinction of joining the Administrative Services and reaching the top.
Currently two have made their mark in the political arena as Ministers. More than one dozen veterans had made supreme sacrifice of their lives while safeguarding the nation’s boundaries.
