The Military intelligence officials have arrested a 22-year-old youth  who was found roaming around Garhi cantonment area where Army recruitment rally was being conducted on Tuesday, suspiciously, donning Army uniform. The accused was grilled by the forces and it was found out that he was a frustrated youth having made several aborted attempts to get into the armed forces through the recruitment rallies, sources said.

The Army recruitment rally is being organised at Mahendra Ground in the Army Cantonment area since October 8. It will be concluded on October 14. Thousands of aspiring youths are participating in the rally to get jobs in the Defence. Notably, the military officers stepped up security around the venue and barricades were set up at various places with several roads being blocked in view of the ongoing recruitment rally. Those entering the venue are being frisked by the Army personnel to ensure security.

The course of interrogation revealed that the suspect was aspiring to get job in the armed forces. He was identified as Vikas Singh Rawat, resident of Bullawala, Doiwala, Dehradun.

After it was ascertained that the  suspect did not have any link with any of  the terrorist organisations and his intention was nothing to harm the institution, he was handed over to Dehradun Police, said Cantt police station in-charge Rajesh Sah. A case under sections 170 and 171 of IPC was registered against the accused and the process was on to send him in Suddhowala jail after being produced in the court at the time when the report was being filed.

The investigating officers interrogated the youth too. One of them said that he had made six aborted attempts to get recruited in the Army. While his uncle was an Army personal his father was a driver of a commercial vehicle, the officer said, adding that the accused is presently working in a hotel in Haridwar.

“The interesting fact is that he impersonated himself as an Army person before his parents and other family members. He was used to donning the Army uniform to convince his parents and others that he had been recruited and been working in the Army for the past many months.  He also told them that currently, he was being given training in Jaipur, Rajasthan. These facts reveled that his heart’s craving to be in the armed forces goaded him to don the Army attire, a kind of fantasy solution,” he added.
