Members of some right- wing organisations are now on a protest spree over on-going construction of slaughterhouses at Manglaur. They said that they would not allow it under any circumstances. Notably, a state of the art abattoir is being constructed at Manglaur. However, local Congress MlA Qazi Nizamuddin said that since Manglaur has a non-BJP MlA the BJP-helmed state government is trying to incite one community against the other for vested interest. “As the state government lacks developmental agenda it is busy inciting emotions on such trifles,” he said.
According to reports, a slaughterhouse with a capacity of slaughtering 300 animals a day is being constructed on Pirpura Road in Pathanpura locality of Manglaur on public-private partnership (PPP) mode. Manglaur municipal board has provide around 2,500 square meter land to HM Agro Foods (private partner) to build the abattoir. “At present boundary walls around the land are being constructed,” said Azhar Ali, the executive officer of Manglaur Municipal Board. The BJP MlA from laksar Sanjay Gupta said that they would oppose of the construction of slaughterhouse by all means. “I am making it categorically clear that we would not allow a slaughterhouse to come up at Manglaur. Those who are protesting are justified,” he added. He added that Uttarakhand being known as Devbhoomi, slaughtering cows or other animals at an abattoir goes against the soul of the State.
