“know your Army Mela” to be held on Jan 22,23
Dehradun:On the occasion of 69th Republic Day a “know your Army Mela” would be organised from 10.30 am to 5 pm at Jaswant Singh Ground, Garhi Cantt, Dehradun on January 22 and 23. The major attractions of the two- day event are weapon and equipment display, pipe band display, bayonet fighting display, infantry commando in action, information counter for recruitment in Indian Army and food and beverages stalls.
Woman arrested for duping Kolkata resident
Dehradun:In assistance with Kolkata police, Dehradun police arrested a woman identified as Swati Chauhan, resident of Sahaspur, from Selaqui on Saturday on charge of duping a Kolkata resident Keya Yadav of Rs 5lakh on the pretext of donating her kidney. Police recovered Rs 1.38 lakh from her possession. A case under sections 379/420 of IPC was registered against her in Shakespeare Sarani police station in Kolkata on January 11. As per police, Keya had met Swati and the latter had assured Keya of denoting her kidney. Swati had reached the Kolkata- based hospital on January 9 and after she had got hold of the money, she had run away from the hospital. A team from Kolkata led by sub-insepctor Hirak Dalpati reached Dehradun. Acting on a tip off, Swati was arrested from Selaqui on Saturday.
DM reviews prosecutiion dept issues
Dehradun:Dehradun DM SA Murugesan reviewed prosecution department issues on Saturday. SSP Nivedita Kukreti was also present. DM said that punishment was awarded by the courts in 60 cases in December. The accused were released in 20 cases and compromise took place in 26 cases while 1117 cases under NDPS, 212 POCSO ACT, 28 Cases related to SC/ST and 136 cases under Gangster Act are pending.
