What a fall!

Habituated to sycophancy while the Babu was having heyday in the Babudom, the Babu is now in deep trouble after retirement. When the Babu was enjoying power those working in the department the Babu was running were at the bureaucrat’s beck and call, doing the Babu’s bidding. Things were such that they used to do things in the kitchen too while helping the spouse with the domestic chores. Fond of flaunting power, the Babu used to have all the departmental cars parked near their residence. One who was working in the department recounted his predicament, something that showed how arrogant the Babu was. To please the bureaucrat, he took a souvenir to be presented to the Babu, but he was made to act as a watchman as the watchman was on leave. However, the blessed days were gone once the Babu retired.  Now, things are so desperate that the bureaucrat’s spouse is literally begging for persons who can provide the family the service it used to avail previously when the Babu was calling the shots in the department.  The servants who the family have employed are proving difficult to tackle. The Babu’s colleagues are, however, getting amused over their pitiable plight. They say that had the family not treated the department’s employees as their servants things might have been much happier for them now.

Fuming highlanders

State Government pulling out all the stops to please the highlanders of the state through development and the like, the bureaucrats are proving roadblocks. Those hailing from the hills while working in the plains are an angry lot now. They say that the administration declaring the Janmashtmi holiday at the eleventh hour robbed them of the chance to go to their places in the hills to enjoy a three-day leave, taking the Sunday into account.  Janmashtmi holiday falling on Monday followed by the Independence Day on Tuesday could have given them enough time to take their families to their ancestral villages in the hills to revive their ties with the hills. However, the Babus dithering long over whether to declare a holiday to mark Janmashtmi came in the way, leaving the highlanders fume in anger.
