Monstrous Monsoon

As monsoon is showing its red eyes to the people the officials entrusted with the task of easing their rain-spawned suffering seem to be enjoying the rain. With stretches remaining riddled with potholes and getting waterlogged even after a brief rain spell, those who are paid to look after the basic amenities of the taxpayers seem to be poetizing the beauty of rain. With garbage being indiscriminately dumped on the roads by the shopkeepers, dairy owners and their ilk, making a mockery of the anti-littering act enforced in the state, the municipal corporation officials in the city cannot care less. Those who are throwing garbage on the city roads are rolling out queer excuses for their indefensible acts.  While the shop-owners say that what they are dumping are dry substances which do not choke drains the dairy owners say that they are throwing the dung which melt in no time. The condition of the roads is pathetic. Those who are visiting the city for the first time are the worst sufferers with no knowledge of which stretches are free from potholes and which are not.  Fatal accidents happening thick and fast, those running the state come out from somnolence after flak comes their way and order for the potholes being repaired. And once the din subsides they relapse in their sweet somnolent state, leaving things on the roads as they are.

Enigma of ‘non- transfer’

It is routine that a regime change is followed by a reshuffle in the administration and the police.  In Uttarakhand, the change happened in March following which many IPSs were made to shift. However, there is one IPS, saddled in an important post, who has been spared the trouble of shifting places. His jealous colleagues are wondering over what has helped him dodge things. Things are all the more baffling as an IPS- deemed to be a blue- eyed boy of the previous regime- was made to go, as his colleagues expected. But their such expectation of another of their senior colleagues has so far come to naught.
