DGP expresses concern over dying rivers
Director General of Police M A Ganpathy has expressed his grave concern over the dying rivers and rivulets flowing through and around Dehradun. During a conversation with head of Ganga Action Parivar Swami Chidananda Saraswati based in Rishikesh, he stressed on finding out ways to rejuvenate them.
Swami Chidanand Saraswati said, “Rispana and Bindal rivers are the life lines of Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand. But they have become victims of encroachment and pollution. The health of Dehradun city being linked to these seasonal rivers, the people, especially police, school children and the saint fraternity must come forward for rejuvenation of these rivers.” DGP came to Rishikesh to participate in Ganga Arati along with his family members. He said that ‘Arati’ of Ganga was a good practice, given the great need to conserve the environment. “If people do not deify the rivers as divine entities and do everything to conserve them they are destined to follow the course of Rispana and Bindal which are being choked to death now,” he said.
