Red beacon toilet

Interesting things happening in Devbhoomi for some time, a new one has been added recently. It might give the people of the state, long grappling with the intensity of the dramatic tension, some sort of a comic relief. An important   politician who was enjoying the status of a cabinet minister, thanks to the largesse rolled out by the extremely generous chief minister, flew right from Delhi on an urgent call to inaugurate a newly constructed toilet. There is, however, nothing amiss in it, as the Centre along with the state government is going extra miles to make the country open defecation free. However, at the same time, this can hardly help having eyebrows raised, as the supposedly cash-strapped state exchequer is being drained to its limits to keep such people-the number is considerable- something of red- beacon treatment. The witty critics are saying that unveiling toilets is the best thing possible for such worthies who are ‘purging’ the state of its scarce resources.

Plight of greedy babus

The model code of conduct kicking in has not relieved in the least a section of the Babus, particularly those who are adept in bending over backwards to placate the politicians that matter. Prior to the enforcement of the model code of conduct, the pliable Babus were battered with a legion of files their mentors wanted to be cleared. Even after the model code of conduct has been enforced, they are being forced to work overtime to clear the back-breaking piles of pending files.  Wilting under pressure, the Babus are passing on some of it to their hapless subordinates. Those privy to the murky functioning of the Babudom say that it is serving those Babus right who are ready to go to any length to appease the reigning politicos into securing plum postings and the like.   However, things are more trying now, post   the MCC enforcement. The election commission keeping an eagle eye on the leaders and the Babus, the latter are doubly cautious to spare themselves the potential EC-induced reprimand.
