Coaxed to be dupedIJ
The demonetisation move having triggered a fierce debate across the country, many are wondering over its feasibility. They say that the switch from cash economy to a cashless one as envisaged by the Prime Minister in a country cursed with a massive illiteracy cannot but prove a bumpy one. It is a fact that 26 percent of the population is illiterate, meaning that they are unable either to read or write. Against this scenario, it implies that the illiterate populace must be forced to be tech savvy, adept in using smart phones. Besides, the reality is that the government cannot ensure fool-proof cyber security. There are instances galore even from a sleepy town like Dehradun of money being spirited away from the people’s accounts through net payment system. Even the Union finance minister has admitted the presence of the cyber criminals. Does it mean that the Centre is, though inadvertently, goading the illiterate mass of the country’s people into the cyber criminals’ widely spread vicious netIJ
MlA in a golden fix
Things seem bleak for an MlA who has been on a winning streak for a number of elections from a constituency deemed prestigious. What happened is that desperate to convert his unaccounted money into gold soon after the Prime Minister announced demonetization of the high-value currencies, the MlA along with his wife rushed to a jewellery shop. As per the CCTV footages, he had purchased gold worth Rs four crore from two shops with the scrapped currencies. What is more, he threw tantrums when a girl working in one of the jewellery shops they approached said she was unable to deliver that much quantity of gold. Interestingly, the Income Tax department seized the footages. The members of the party the MlA belongs to are learnt to be trying all tricks in the book to force the IT officials to delete the footages. However, the IT officials refusing to give in might land the MlA in trouble in the coming days when the parties would finalize nominations for the upcoming election.
