Self-importance of Babudom
As irony would have it, the application of all India arms license of a bureaucrat who, in his career spanning over 35 years, has been generously issuing recommendation letters for those seeking passports has been gathering dust for days in the secretariat. The clerk sent the file to DM office. later, the DM office sent it to local Intelligence Unit (lIU). Now lIU personnel would visit his house to verify his antecedents. The bureaucrat has much to lament over. He who has helped many to have things done promptly is being subjected to the procedural hanky -panky. Things are such that until the lIU and the police officers give a character certificate the case would hang fire. Many say that this shows how red- tapism is slowing things down. As per the data available, 99.9 percent of the arms license holders have no record of misusing the guns. But the Babudom, steeped into an air of negativity, hardly cares. The bureaucrat must prove his character before they proceed to provide him with the license. However, there are instances of such cases being cleared promptly. But in this case, things are different. One wonders whether it is a case of some Babus flaunting exaggerated sense of self-importance.
Riddle of appointments
Uttarakhand Ayurveda University has remained mired in controversies since Mrityunjai Mishra was appointed as the registrar. Things were such that even Rajbhawan stepped into the matter, shooting off a letter to the State Government to probe his appointment. Question is being raised over the appointment of the vice- chancellor too, as he was appointed for three years by the previous government despite the fact that he crossed 65. Recently, a PIl has been filed in the Uttarakhand high court against the appointment of VC of UAU. However, Rajbhawan has chosen to remain mum. Sources say that Rajbhawan steps in regarding cases as noticed by the officials or briefed by them. Interestingly, the officials are the same who had been instrumental in appointing the VC in violation of the rules. As they are reluctant to be shown on the wrong side of the matter they are naturally not inclined to bring it to the notice of Rajbhawan.
