Wise thieves and bemused cops

The exulted cops of a particular police station in Dehradun chose to go on hibernation — except the time when they went on the prowl to fleece the errant motorists-after a closed circuit television (CCTV) camera was installed in the station. They self-complacently believed that crimes would no longer trouble their sweet slumber thereafter. However, they did not know what was being kept in store for them. The wily thieves, in their infinite stealing wisdom, stole the camera itself one blessed night. Shaken out of composure, the stupefied cops started cursing their fate. There are reasons. Firstly, they would have keep vigil on crimes with the camera gone and secondly, they would have to pay through their purses for a new CCTV to be re0installed. Flabbergasted over the turn of things, they approached their seniors, appealing to be spared the penalty for the stolen camera. They were assured too, given the back-slapping camaraderie reigning in the Mitra (friendly) police.  A proposal was accordingly sent to the state government. However, the gesture proved counter-productive. Exasperated over seniors shielding their unabashed juniors, the officer concerned admonished both, ruling that the generously lenient seniors must initiate disciplinary action against their shifty juniors and the latter must be made to pay for a new CCTV camera through their salaries as a price for complacency-induced nonchalance.

Floundering administration and triumphant employees

To whip the truant Secretariat staff into conforming to the strict attendance norms, the administration made biometric attendance mandatory last year. To enforce it, the    secretariat administration (SAD) collected finger impressions of all, including principal secretary and the secretaries. However, reckoning with the emotions surging in the ‘wronged’ breasts of the indignant staff members, the Secretariat administration deferred the biometric enforcement till   February 2015. They, however, said they needed time to complete the formalities. Now, it is June and things still hang in fire to the immense glee of the triumphant staffers. The state administration made it clear while initiating things on that count that the biometric attendance norms would apply for all the state government employees across the state. But with things vegetating in the Secretariat, the nerve-centre of the state administration, one can easily imagine how things work out in the districts.
