Guarding hell-gateIJ
The Chief Minister’s residence on Cant Road, erected for crores, remains unoccupied with the building remaining tagged with sinister foreboding. There is a perception running rife that the tenure of the CM would not be completed if he dares to land there to stay. Taking things in the ‘right’ spirit’, Harish Rawat chose to steer clear of the ‘queer’ house and got settled in Bijapur guest house instead. Police personnel remain posted there to keep round the clock, eagle-eyed vigil. However, the CM’s stubbornness to cling to the guest house has left the security personnel in the lurch. What has happened is that to facilitate the people to ease, the authority set up some urinals at the entrance of the guest house. The stench they emanate turns so overpowering that the security personnel who stay put there for eight to ten hours a day find their posting tantamount to keeping guard on the gate of hell. The senior officers are spared this predicament as they get into the sanctum sanctorum of the State administration via the VIP gate. But who would empathise with the hapless guards who are made to bear the hellish odour day in and day out to ensure that the incumbent CM runs his full termIJ.
UAU’s Registrar woe
Uttarakhand Ayurveda University, which was founded to promote Ayurveda and facilitate Ayurveda colleges in the State, seems to be whiling away time in sheer idleness with its Registrar being given additional responsibility as the Additional Resident Commissioner (ARC) unofficially. Officially, it is being said that he has been given additional responsibility to stay one week every month in Delhi with Resident Commissioner. While in Delhi, he would do liaison work for the State Government. The varsity, albeit being run in the name of the Vice- Chancellor, is, on the ground, under the charge of the Registrar as far as the day-to-day official formalities are concerned. But with the UAU Registrar being relieved by the university authority a part of his obligations to UAU to enable him to cater to the needs of ARC, things have well nigh come to a standstill. Things turned murkier as the varsity appointed an Assistant Registrar. The question is-if the Registrar is dispensable what was the need to go for the recruitment of his assistantIJ On the flipside, if the Registrar is supposed to do a lot of works what is the rationale behind shoving him to ARCIJtry Rs15,000 per annum. Moreover, they sign a bond which says that they will stay put in the State for three to five years, to serve the ill-cared people there. What are left for the people who struggled hard to conjure up Uttarakhand with sweat, blood toil and tears are mere sighs with the reverie of better days turning into an anathema of un-redressed agony.
