Murky

As the adage goes, politics is the art of the possible. And this is what the Chief Minster Harish Rawat, considered an adept in fine-tuning the apparently disparate, embodies. Two persons, subjectively inimical to each other, are parts of the larger political tapestry. They seem to be getting on somehow. However, the intrinsic distemper surfaces off and on- quite palpably. The Cabinet Minister for Tourism Dinesh Dhanai has reasons to grudge Kishore Upadhyaya ruling the roost in the organisation of the ruling Congress. Dhanai was elected to the Assembly from the Tehri constituency in the last 2012 election as an Independent candidate, defeating the Congress candidate Kishore Upadhyaya, then the sitting MlA. Dhanai is an important part of the PDF alliance that has seven MlAs. The Harish Rawat Government survived the no-confidence motion a few days after it was saddled at the helm of things courtesy the support it got from the alliance. Dhanai keeps consolidating his stature further in his constituency by way of Government sponsored programmes like Tehri lake Adventure Tourism Festival. He is thus endearing himself to his electorate as the steps conceived and executed by him are supposed to be spawning a feel -good factor among them. He naturally wants the limelight exclusively remaining trained on his persona as the harbinger of development for his area. However, Upadhyaya emerging as a regional satrap has left him worried.  Politics known for its inscrutability is a game of one-up-manship. Who knows what would unfold in the coming days with things remaining fluid and murkyIJ Changing tacks in tune with the inexorable motion of politics, would Rawat prop up Upadhyaya’s candidature from the Tehri constituency in the 2017 electionIJ  Who knowsIJ

Innovation

State Finance Department seems to be wilting under pressure, being pestered endlessly with the unconstitutional, frivolous demands being raised by the voluble public representatives. To cope up with the pressure these days, the Finance Secretary Bhaskarand has fallen on an innovative way to rid them of their fangs. He is keeping two books written on the Indian Constitution near at hand in his office. He flaunts the books to the flippant public representatives when they visit him, armed with fantastic demands. The result is remarkable. They become mystified and slump into silence.
