Big cat claims another life

A man was found killed by a big cat near Dhikuli village in the Sarpduli range of Corbett tiger reserve on Tuesday. The man who was out herding goats in the woods was attacked from behind by a big cat when he was resting.

According to Corbett deputy director Saket Badola, as the area has movement of both tigers and leopards, the identity of the big cat responsible for the kill has not yet been ascertained. “However, we have set up four pairs of camera traps and placed one cage in the area in order to ascertain the identity of the killer. I myself will be camping in this area,” he added, while stressing that the big cat which killed the man here did not eat flesh from the body.

It is worth mentioning here that though officials state they are not in a position to establish the identity of the killer yet, the tiger suspected to be responsible for three human deaths in Corbett since last year cannot be ruled out at present. This tiger has killed three persons so far but is not reported to have eaten flesh from the bodies of its victims.
