‘power supply can solve migration from hills’
Pantnagar: The problem of migration of youth from hilly areas could be solved if power is regularly supplied in the villages of the hills. Former Vice Chancellor of the GB Pant University and director of Birla Institute of Applied Sciences, Bheemtal, BS Bisht said this while speaking at the inaugural session of a two-day workshop on challenges of rural electrification in the college of technology here on Thursday. linking availability of power with the migration, Bisht said that the unemployment is the main cause of migration from the hills. Power drives the industry which is wanting in hills. If power is supplied in these areas then industry would be established which in turn would generate employment. He said that both hydro electricity and non conventional sources like biogas and solar energy should be used to supply power in rural mountainous areas. He called upon scientists to develop technologies which could provide enough power to rural areas.
