The khaps of Haryana — notorious for their diktats — have now announced to launch a State-wide campaign against cow-slaughter, besides asking the State Government to discontinue the subsidy of slaughter houses with immediate effect.
The decision was taken at the annual function of Shri Krishan Gaushala held at Dighal village under Beri sub-division here. The function presided over by former MlA Naresh Malik and was attended by hundreds of representatives of over 60 khap panchayats from different parts of the State besides local people.
The khap leaders during the function also announced to form ‘Cow Protection Committee’ at village level across the State, which will not only take care of stray cows in their villages concerned but also inform them about trafficking of cows if any in their area.
The leaders declared that the khap panchayats would also extend their full support to those outfits that have been associated with checking cow slaughter in the State.
“Process to constitute cow protection committee at village level will be initiated soon after consulting with prominent people of the villages so that they could also keep a close tab on the functioning of these committee,” said the khap leaders.
Terming cow slaughter as “most heinous crime”, Malik argued that it was failure of the State Government, police and the district administrative authorities that the act went undetected for such a long time.
He maintained that Animal Welfare Acts were not being implemented properly and animal lovers were unaware of these Acts. In this situation, sincere efforts were required to make the people aware about car slaughter so as to check this heinous crime.
