2,000 transferred teachers to join new schools as model code set to end

The end of Model code of conduct enforced due to the General elections on May 16 would bring some reprieve to the students of many schools of the state as the stay imposed by the State Election Commission on joining of transferred teachers ends on the day. About 2,000 teachers transferred by the State Government were scheduled to join new schools on April 1, but the process was stalled by the State Election Commission.

The primary and secondary education department had transferred about two thousand teachers who applied for voluntary transfers under the new transfer policy of the education department in two phases last year. These teachers were supposed to join the new assignments on April 1 as the new education session starts on the date. The election commission’s stay caused ceasing of the transfer process of teachers.

The studies in many Government schools were being hampered by the delay in joining of these teachers. The education department officials are saying that these teachers would be asked to relieve from their schools as soon as order from State Government is received. The State Education Minister Mantri Prasad Naithani recently said that teachers would be relieved on May 17 itself. Interestingly Uttarakhand would again be under the spell of Model Code of Conduct from May 26 due to the Panchayat elections in all the districts of State barring Haridwar so the education department would be in a hurry to complete the relieving and joining formalities of these teachers.

The State Government declared 2012-13 as zero session for transfers and did no transfers as it was working on the transfer policy of teachers. The Government formulated a policy for transfers, new joining and promotions in various cadres of teachers in the session 2013-14.
