2 minors' rape incidents leave State shocked

Published on:

Two rape incidents involving a minor and a child in Chamoli and Tehri districts in a span of a few days have left the cops deeply worried. While in one case that occurred in Chamoli district the minor was murdered after being raped, a 30-month old child was raped in the second incident by a teenager aged around 15 in Tehri district.

Such crimes having happened in the mountainous parts of the State where crimes seldom happen have left the people aghast. The law- enforcing agencies are a worried lot with the cruelty of the crimes being horrifying. Revenue policing system still exists in mountainous districts as they are relatively much more peaceful than the districts of the plains where crimes happen thick and fast.

State Chief Minister Harish Rawat has recently directed the senior cops to ensure that regular police deal with crime cases involving the women that occur in revenue areas of the district.

Seemingly at their wits’ end regarding the horrendous crime of a two and half year old girl being raped by a 15–year- old boy, police sent the accused to a children’s home for 10 days after he was presented in juvenile justice board in Tehri on Tuesday. Victim’s parents had registered a complaint and a case under section of 376 of IPC and sections ¾ of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was registered against the accused in the police station, Ghansali, said SP Tehri Mukhtar Mohsin.

Team was formed and its members collected relevant evidences related to the case. Along with the district magistrate, SP Mohsin visited the district hospital to see the rape victim.  They also enquired into the medical treatment. Doctors said she was recovering and feeling better, SP added.

Mohsin further said that a proposal would be sent through district legal services authority to the state government to give the rape

victim/parents financial assistance from the crime victim scheme envisaged by the home ministry.
