Short-circuit spawned fire broke out in two garment shops located at Vigyan Vihar in Raipur, Dehradun early morning on Friday. The fire was extinguished after two teams of fire officials strove with the blaze for close to an hour. Garments worth Rsfive lakhs were reportedly reduced to ashes. The locals reportedly informed the owners of the gutted shops–Rajesh Goswami and Sunil Thapliyal. However, no casualty has been reported, said Dehradun fire station Officer Shiv Prasad Mamgai.

Mamgai said his office was informed about the fire around 4.30 am on Friday. Soon, two fire tenders were rushed to the site. Initially, police faced problems as both the shops were full of smoke. The fire officials were pressed into use at the earliest, he said, adding that timely action had stopped the blaze from spreading to other areas.
