As the State has witnessed an alarming number of cases of molestation in just one month, the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights SCPCR) has written a letter to education department as well as to the police department to make the children aware of good touch and bad touch.
According to a senior functionary of the child rights body, the letter to both the departments had been sent nearly two months ago. “But the campaign as suggested is yet to be launched,” he said.
Quizzed over the delay, a senior officer said that despite the letter being sent around two months ago, the campaign is yet to be started for several reasons. “This is principally because of the students being engaged with their examinations,” he said.
However, the SCPCR officer said that nothing had happened despite the body having sent reminders to both the departments, asking them to launch the campaign without wasting further time. “Both the departments conduct such campaigns in the schools. By way of contrast, several organisations like NGOs and other bodies are regularly working in the field to make the children aware of the good and the bad touch,” the officer said.
With respect to the case of a 14-year-old girl allegedly molested by her own relative in Nanital, the commission has written a letter to the senior superintendent of police Nanital, asking the officer to submit the inquiry report of the case in the commission within 15 days. Furthermore, the commission has written to the Uttarakhand State Legal Service Authority SLSA) for the compensation due to a victim of a rape case allegedly committed in 2018.
The chairperson SCPCR Usha Negi said, “It is very important that the children are made aware of the good and the bad touches. The more they are aware the less the crimes to be perpetrated against them.”
