More than 16,500 contractual workers of UPNl would resume their work after a long strike of 21 days. The association of contractual workers of UPNl decided to call off its strike on Sunday following assurances given by the State Government that no contractual worker would be removed.
The Government also assured the agitating workers that the process of departmental contracts of all the workers would soon start. The association was also assured that all the terminated UPNl workers would be reinstated. However rift occurred in the association following the decision to withdraw the strike.
One faction of the association was adamant on
continuing the strike till the Government Order (GO) is issued. The State President of the association Bhavesh Jaguri denied any rift within the organisation. He accepted that there was some difference in opinion on the decision but ultimately everyone agreed to give a time of one month to the State Government to implement its written promises.
Jaguri said that all the workers who were camping at the protest site near parade ground have started moving to their places of postings. He said that all 16,500 workers manning more than 150 departments of State Government would resume their duties from Monday.
The association was on strike from June 27.One of the major demand of these workers was that the State Government should regularise their services. The other demands of the workers were that their salaries should be increased and they should not be removed in any case.
These workers got agitated when some of the workers were removed by the State Government and permanent recruitment on the post held by the contractual UPNl workers was started by the state Sub ordinate services selection commission
