Following the direction of State DGP BS Sidhu to put a check on illegal sale of liquor smuggled from neighbouring States, STF Uttarakhand arrested two persons involved in supplying illegal IMF liquor in Uttarakhand from Haryana and seized 160 boxes of smuggled IMF liquor from their possession in Rishikesh.
The accused have been identified as Sonu and Ravi, natives of Karnal (Haryana). Acting on tip off, a team of STF led by sub-inspector Aashutosh Singh checked a mini truck (Haryana registered plate number) and arrested the accused and seized smuggled liquors from their possession in Rishikesh. A case under appropriate sections of Excise Act and 207 motor- vehicle Act against the accused was registered in Rishikesh Police Station.
It should be mentioned here that STF Uttarakhand acted on tip off have seized IMF liquors of 81 boxes, 177 boxes and 1050 bottles on December 17 and December 29 last year and January 15, 2016 respectively which were being supplied in Uttarakhand from Punjab.
