Following the high alert on likely moderate to heavy rainfall along with snowfall in the higher reaches above 3000 metres issued by the Uttarakhand Meteorological Centre, a special team consisting of 15 members of SDRF has been deployed in Rudraprayag district while another team has been alerted in anticipation of emergency deployment in the disaster- affected areas to conduct rescue and relief operations, said state director general of police BS Sidhu on Thursday.
Uttarakhand Meteorological Centre has forecast rather heavy snow in higher reaches of Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag and Pithoragarh districts. 05- 15 cm snowfall in depth may occur at places with altitudes of 2300 to 3300 metres while 15- 35 cm snowfall in depth at places with altitudes of above 3300 metres, said Uttarakhand Metrological Centre director
Anand Sharma on Thursday. Sharma attributed this to western disturbances and induced cyclonic circulation over Haryana and neighbouring districts of Uttar Pradesh. Moderate rainfall accompanied by snow was reported in the higher reaches while the plains experienced isolated light rainfall in Uttarakhand. This plunged the mercury down by a few notches on Thursday. Dehradun witnessed cloudy sky and drizzling throughout the day on Thursday.
Sharma said that the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 14.0°C and 11.0°C respectively in Dehradun on Thursday. The weather forecast for Dehradun on Friday is partly cloudy sky and light rain/thunder showers at some places. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 19°C and 07°C respectively on Friday in Dehradun.
