In order to get affiliation from Sri Dev Suman Uttarakhand University for conducting evening classes, as many as 15 Government degree and Government-aided degree colleges across the State have applied, informed SDSUU Vice-Chancellor US Rawat on Monday. A high level committee comprising 13 members has been formed and its members have been directed to conduct inspection in these colleges to evaluate whether the available infrastructure there is in sync with the University Grants Commission guidelines and to submit detailed reports to the University in a week.
The University will allocate seats for admissions on various degree colleges based on UGC guidelines and available infrastructure in terms of the number of teaching staff members, non- teaching staff members, class rooms, laboratories among others, the VC added.
Rawat said that the colleges which applied for affiliation to the University are Government Degree College, Gopeshwar, GDC Karnprayag, GDC Chinyalisaur, GDC Kotdwar, GDC Augustmuni, GDC New Tehri, GDC Uttarkashi, GDC Barkot, GDC Purola, GDC Dakpathar, GDC Doiwala, MKP (PG) College, DBS (PG) College, DAV (PG) College and GDC Rishikesh. As per University Grants Commission-envisaged norms, 60-80 students will be incorporated in each batch. Based on the available infrastructure, two or three batches will be allowed in a college, he added.
Recently, after the High Court rejected a review application filed by some students' leaders and the State Government vis-à-vis the court's April ruling and re- directed all the government degree colleges of the state to enroll students on approved seats, the state government has decided to go for evening classes in Government degree colleges and Government-aided degree colleges by way of resolving the issue of tangled college admission. Hence, their applications are for the affiliation from SDSUU.
The evening classes will be conducted in these colleges in compliance with the University Grants Commission norms, sources said. Students, who fail to get admission in these colleges affiliated with HNB Garhwal Central University in regular classes (morning classes), would get admission in the same colleges for evening classes. More than 20,000 students from across the State are expected to benefit from the evening classes, sources added.
