A leopard mauled to death a 12-year-old boy from Mauso Talla village about seven kilometres away from the Pauri district headquarter on Sunday evening.

The leopard attacked the boy when he was playing in the premises of his residence. Hearing the boy’s scream, the family members and the villagers assembled and started searching for him. The body of the boy was found about 200 metres away from his home. The forest officials sent a report to the official concerned, asking for the leopard be declared a man –eater.

Divisional forest officer Raj Mani Pandey told The Pioneer that Nepali boy Anand Bahadur aged around 12 was attacked and killed by the leopard in the evening on Sunday. Anand Bahadur, son of Kiran Bahadur, was studying in the Primary School at Mauso. Pandey further said that the forest team was sent just after the information of the incident was received.

“They set up cages in the area,” he said, adding that the recommendation has been sent to chief wildlife warden to declare the leopard a man- eater. It is pertinent to mention that the leopard had attacked and injured three children in a span of 20 days in September. It was found prowling around the adjoining areas of the district headquarter Pauri.

However, this is the first incident of someone getting killed.
