11 paramedical education institutes' exams in limbo

Published on:

The State administration had already issued no-objection certificate to 11 paramedical education institutions for holding examinations but the Garhwal Central University has expressed its inability to organise these exams stating that the institutes are no longer affiliated to the university. The affiliation issue will be put up before the empowered committee headed by the chief secretary, said Medical Education secretary RK Sudhanshu. Interacting with the media here on Friday, he said that students of 11 paramedical institutes in the State are anxious as their examinations are not being conducted. “The Garhwal Central University has stated that it cannot conduct exams in these institutes as these are not affiliated to the university. However, the university is liable as the affiliation of an institute continues unless it is de-affiliated. As per the standards introduced in 2003 to regulate paramedical institutes, the institutes were required to obtain no-objection certificate from the State administration and then seek affiliation from the Garhwal University which was then a State university. The paramedical council was formed in 2005 and between 2005 and 2009 a total of 12 paramedical institutions could not secure affiliation to the Garhwal Central University. One of these institutes in Rishikesh has closed down. The committee formed to look into this issue has already inspected the institutes and the matter will be presented in the meeting of the empowered committee headed by chief secretary. The meeting will be held on November 20,” said Sudhanshu.
