In the case of a 10-month old boy being abducted from Dehradun railway station late on Sunday night, Government Railway Police (GRP) successfully rescued the baby and arrested the accused. The GRP Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Manoj Kumar Katyal said that they are also investigating the criminal history of the accused.

According to GRP, the accused Anand Singh Thakur, resident of Gandhigram, Kanwli Road was arrested near Mahant Indresh Hospital at about 2:30 am on Monday.

The father of the kidnapped child went with the police team and recognised his baby boy in the arms of the accused.

ASP Katyal said, “The complainant Ashish Saxena, who lives in Selaqui but is basically from Moradabad, gave this information around Sunday midnight in GRP police station that his 10-month boy had been kidnapped.

Immediately after that police team from GRP and Lakkhibagh chowki took action and the baby was rescued. We are interrogating the accused; we are also investigating the case through the point of view of trafficking.

The baby boy is safe and has been handed over to his parents.”Giving further information he said, “Prima facie it seems that the accused kidnapped the boy for selling.

So far, it seems that the accused acted alone, the investigation is ongoing. The accused is giving misleading statements so far, but we are working on it.”Father of the kidnapped boy, Ashish Saxena said, “We missed our train Kathgodam Express to Moradabad.

We were tired so both my wife and I fell asleep while the children were playing.

Our four year-old daughter woke us up at about 12:30 am, that’s when we realised that our boy was not there. We immediately filed a complaint in GRP station.”

Speaking with the media, the accused Thakur claimed, “My intention was not to kidnap the baby. The mother only handed him to me. I am being wrongly accused.
