As a proposal was passed to grant Rs 20 lakh to each councillor for construction works in their wards, Mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ on Monday stated that tender for works on 50 proposals from 50 wards will be floated in the next couple of days.
Talking about it he said, “We have a shortage of employees especially Junior Engineers (JE’s) which was why it took long to check the proposals.
However, the work has been almost done and nearly 50 proposals from 50 wards are to be floated from in the coming days.” When asked about the proposals from remaining 50 wards he said, “We held a meeting recently and it was decided that the pending proposals of the remaining 50 wards will be cleared in the coming week.
We are trying to clear work in some of the wards before the monsoon season.” Councillors from various wards, however, stated that about 20 days are left for the onset of the monsoon season and the tenders haven’t been floated yet.
They also said that as the monsoon the season is close, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has also failed to do proper cleaning of the drains in the city. This will again result in water logging in this rainy season.
