The police found a 15-year-old girl from the Harrawala Railway station on Sunday who had allegedly run away from the quarantine centre at Balika Niketan in Dehradun.
The chairperson of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) Usha Negi informed that the police found the girl from the said railway station on Sunday. She said that unfortunately, the girl has been sexually assaulted by one of the nearby residents. The police took the victim for the medical examination and have filed a case against the alleged culprit under the POCSO Act, added Negi.
It is pertinent to mention here that the teenage girl is native of Bihar who was found by Dehradun police a few days back roaming around in the city. She reportedly ran away from the quarantine centre at Balika Niketan on Friday around 10 AM while the procedure of sending her back to Bihar was under process by the district child welfare committee (CWC).
Suspecting that something bad might happen to the girl, Negi had directed the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Dehradun on the same day to investigate the matter.
