‘Nanak an inspirational figure’

Published on:

Guru Nanak Dev ji stands as a source of inspiration for those who believe in humanity and are selflessly committed to the service of humanity. We are spiritually privileged to celebrate 550th birth anniversary of the great Saint.

The teachings of Guru Nanak Shah Fakir have become even more relevant as humans are facing misfortunes they have created for themselves. The spirit of unity is facing threats and human faith in values has been shaken badly.  Years ago Guru Nanak Ji had warned of such situations and also suggested reformative steps.

As proud citizens of India, we find ourselves fortunate to have Nanakji as our guide and philosopher. Today, when ethnic diversities across the world have been threatened by nefarious forces and fanatic minds, we are fortunate to have Guru's verses as our guiding force. He is not a Guru of Sikh community alone.  He is the great spiritual teacher of humanity as he lays emphasis on cleaning of  behavioural disorders from mind and heart.

Guru Nanakji is an icon of socio– religious and cultural harmony. The companionship of Nanakji and Bhai Mardana is a unique example. It symbolizes cultural unity. The two noble souls were so deeply connected that their companionship lasted till Bhai Mardana, 10 year older than Guruji departed for the heavenly abode.  They travelled together for over two decades singing the glory of the Supreme Being. Nanakji used to sing and Bhai Mardana was accompanying him on Rabab, of which he was a brilliant exponent. He even improvised it by making it a six-string instrument.

He was born into a lower caste Muslim family. His knowledge of music is clearly reflective in Shri Guru Granth Sahib,  which has been set into 60 Ragas. Bhai Mardana finds mention in Sri Guru Granth Sahib. Bhai Gurudas devoted a verse, which says–

'Ek Baba Akal Roop Duja Rabab Mardana.' The world needs to know that - Adi Sach, Jugadi Sach, Hai Bhi Sach, Nanak Hosi Bhi Sach.

That simply means he was an ultimate reality, omnipresent. Nothing is real but the Eternal Lord.

Nothing shall last but the Eternal lord.
