Yash Pal Singhal was on Thursday appointed as the new Director General Police (DGP) in Haryana Police by the BJP Government. He was presently posted as Director General of Vigilance Bureau.
Singhal, IPS officer of the 1983 batch from Jind district of the State, has replaced SN Vashisht, an officer of the 1981 batch, who has been posted as Director General of State Vigilance Bureau in place of Singhal.
Vashisht has ten months of service left and will retire on November 30 this year. The new DGP, on the other hand, has a tenure till March 2017. It was being speculated that Vashisht would also be replaced along with several IPS officers. However, the changed could not take place due to the disturbance created by the followers of Rampal of Dera Satlok Ashram.
No reason for the changes at the highest level in the Haryana Police and State Vigilance Bureau was given. Vashisht was appointed to the post during the Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led Congress Government.
He handled the Rampal episode in Hisar when supporters of the self-styled Godman clashed with the police. After taking over, Singal said that improving law and order in the State would be his top priority. He said that putting a check on smugglers peddling drugs and psychotropic substances would also get due attention as they played with the lives of the youth.
He said efforts would be made to improve the functioning of the police stations and police posts in the State and more resources would be provided to employees posted there. Use of technology in police investigations would be stepped up to ensure that cases are disposed off after completing the investigations at the earliest, Singhal added.
Singhal had worked on various posts in the State, as SP of Bhiwani and Kurukshetra districts besides IG of Hisar Range and is considered a hard task master.
