Chandigarh police personnel and their family members tried to ease their stress by attending “Yog and Chikitsa Shivir”, started at the police line on Thursday.
The weeklong camp is being addressed by Yogacharya Harpal Shastri. Inspector General of Police, Chandigarh, R.P. Upadhyaya inaugurated the camp by lightening the lamp and also participated in the exercises. Heavy workload, long working hours without break and in some cases, conflicting orders from senior officers cause a lot of confusion for the cops leading to high level of stress.
In 2012, a 43-year-old UT police constable, Gurdial Singh, attached to PCR, had committed suicide by shooting himself with his service revolver near a petrol pump in Sector 28 due to excessive stress, which led him in to depression.
In his address, Upadhyaya shared his personal experience to reduce stress by using Yoga exercises in daily life. Other officials, who attended the camp admitted that it relieves their tension and relaxes them. On the first day of the camp, around 300 police personnel and their family members were present.
