The Vijay Bahuguna Cabinet has decided to give ownership right on the lands to the lease holders, who have been residing on land given by the Government for the past several decades, with immediate effect.
On a rough estimate, around 70,000 families will reap its benefit, but now the major challenge before the State Government would be to find out real owners because more than 60 per cent real lease holders have sold out their property. Talking to The Pioneer, an official said that more than 60 per cent land owners of the lease land have sold their land through power of attorney or in stamp paper.
Now the Cabinet decision has empowered the owners, who have been registered in government record, to sell off their land or mortgage their land; so again actual land holder will have to rush here and there to procure ownership.
