Woman, kin facing social boycott seek police protection

Accusing some villagers of pelting stones on their house and threatening them of dire consequence, a woman and her kin facing social boycott in Nangal Kalia village in Mahendragarh district have sought police protection.

They have moved a written application to the Superintendent of Police (SP) and expressed apprehension that a group of powerful villagers wanted to drive them out from the village following a criminal case that was booked by them against two youths in December last year. Muneem Yadav, son of the woman, said, "I and my family members are scared ever since the village Panchayat under a conspiracy pronounced the order of our social boycott on the basis false allegations as we had lodged a complaint of molestation against two co-villagers over two months ago."

He informed that these villagers pelted stones on his house late last night and threatened of dire consequence before returning from there. The stone pelting had caused damage to his property, he added. "Though we had informed Nangal Chaudhary police station about the incident well in time but no action has sofar been taken against the stone-pelters. It was not for the first time, the people had attacked them once earlier as well," said Muneem, adding that they were traumatised following the prevailing situation as no one was coming ahead to succor them. He said the accused youths who had molested his wife were roaming freely in the village and the police was not arresting them. The village panchayat had on Sunday imposed a social boycott on the family for allegedly selling liquor in the village.

Meanwhile, Narender Singh, in-charge of Nangal Choudhary Police station, said the police had gone to the village after getting information about stone pelting. On being asked about delay in the arrest of the youths, he said the case was being probed and they would be arrested.
