Woman complains against IAS officer to Chief Minister

A woman involved in a tiff with an IAS officer, presently working in the State Secretariat, over a land-related dispute complained with Chief Minister Harish Rawat during the Janata Darbar on Tuesday that the State Women Commission had forced her to go for a settlement. Sarojini Kaintyura, chairperson, Uttarakhand State Women Commission, however, denied her allegation, saying she had reached an agreement of her own volition. “Now, if the same complainant is not happy she is free to move court, seeking justice,” she said, adding that the Commission was providing all possible assistance, including legal advice, to the financially weak women, seeking justice.

When the CM was hearing the people’s concerns during the programme the woman sprang up and told him she was yet to get justice. The SWC had cobbled up a settlement formula and thrust it upon her gullet, she said. Earlier, the Commission stepped in after the woman registered a complaint with it, saying the IAS had harassed her. Kaintyura said both the parties were summoned in the Commission and through deliberations, they reached an agreement.

SP City Ajay Singh said the woman had not approached police, complaining that she had been forced to go for the settlement. Police had come into the scene after the woman had lodged a complaint at Nehru Colony police station last month. The in-charge and Sub-Inspector Mukesh Tyagi had earlier said she had registered a complaint against two unidentified persons last month, alleging that both had reached her home and misbehaved with her. Furthermore, an official from the officers’ transit hostel at Race Course had registered a counter complaint against the woman in Nehru Colony police station the same day, stating she had created nuisance in the hostel after she had failed to procure a room there.
