Adding a new current to the wave of political gimmicks on the issue of Punjab waters, Aam Aadmi Party on Tuesday demanded that the Central Government should withdraw the Presidential Reference from the Supreme Court.
Seeking immediate intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the issue of Satluj-Yamuna link canal, the party has said the Presidential Reference should be withdrawn from the Supreme Court.
AAP leader and Supreme Court lawyer HS Phoolka on Tuesday said, “Being a BJP-Akali Government at the Centre and in the Punjab and BJP Governments in Haryana and Rajasthan, Prime Minister Modi was in the best position to resolve the issue amicably.”
We have requested PM Modi to call a meeting of all three Chief Ministers of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan and reiterate Punjab’s riparian right to its river waters and resolve the issue in its favour once and for all times, Phoolka added.
Addressing a Press conference in Chandigarh, Phoolka, accompanying Kanwar Sandhu and Himmat Singh Shergill said Shiromani Akali Dal and Congress had been looking for political advantages of the issue, while the farmers of the State have been in constant distress over the issue.
He said in the matter of SYl in the Supreme Court, the case of Punjab has never been argued properly.
Disapproving Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal’s statements of resigning from his post, if the Supreme Court verdict goes against the State, Phoolka said that being an alliance partner of the ruling party at the Centre, Badal should make Modi to withdraw the Presidential Reference from the Supreme Court within a week. And CM Badal should tender his resign, if the Central Government did not withdraw the Presidential Reference within seven days.
